Pinterest Weddings vs. Reality

The first place most of our couples  go when they start planning their weddings is Pinterest.  The Total Events Team LOVES Pinterest. We’re always browsing new ideas and different décor designs that we can use to create jaw-dropping #TotalEventsTransformations. However, we also know how important it is to understand the reality and logistics behind all of the amazing Pins that have been saved to your wedding inspiration board. Here are our tips for understanding all of the wedding images on Pinterest and how to actually incorporate them to plan your dream wedding.

DIY

Our team loves a good DIY as much as the next person. They can save money and they’re fun projects to complete especially when you get your significant other or your bridal party to join in. However, when planning out the DIY projects for your wedding, there are a few things to consider:

  • Your skill level - Many DIY craft pins are created by bloggers who are either professionals or have a lot of experience crafting. If you have never picked up a glue gun in your life, it’s probably not worth the frustration to try to tackle some of the more complicated projects. We recommend starting with something small to test your skills before you commit to creating all of your table centerpieces..

  • How much will DIY actually save you? - When planning various DIY projects, it’s important to weigh the cost of the project versus hiring a professional. DIY does not always mean cheaper. When figuring out the true cost of a DIY project, you have to consider more than the cost of materials, but also how long it will take to complete the project and how the final product looks. If you put in a lot of work and you are not happy with the final result, then you’ve wasted your time and money.

How Much Do Those Pinterest Weddings Cost?

It’s important to remember that much of what we see on the internet is the most extravagant version of whatever we are searching.  When looking at pins of super lavish, over-the-top weddings, realize that those weddings may come along with a price tag in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. However, that doesn’t mean you should stop looking. We love when clients bring in images they love as it’s a great starting point for a #TotalEvensTransformation consultation. We ask our clients to tell us specific details they like about the images. Are they drawn to the color scheme? The way the drapery is hung? The overall style of the room? Once we have the different components, we can create a plan for your #TotalEventsTransformation based upon your budget.

So what is the reality?

The reality is, the costs have to be considered. For instance, a floral centerpiece costs more than just the flowers. There’s also the labor that goes into creating that gorgeous floral centerpiece, as well as the typical overhead costs that comes with running a business. Don’t be afraid to go to your vendors with a budget you have in mind to see if what you are thinking is feasible. Also remember that a budget is a plan, and it’s ok to adjust as you continue planning. If there’s something that is really important to you, it’s ok to adjust your budget and reallocate funds!

When it comes to planning a picture perfect, Pinterest worthy wedding, just remember that there are a lot of different factors that go into the true cost!
